The Arms Race Runs Through Milwaukee

JULY 14, 2026

The best staffs and arms in the game right now, by team ERA and our form score.

Today the column belongs to the pitchers. Milwaukee has the best rotation in the game and a bullpen in the top five, which is a big reason it keeps hanging with the Dodgers atop the standings. The Yankees, meanwhile, are quietly building the best relief corps in baseball.

Best rotation

Starting rotation ERA — starters only. Lower is better.

The Brewers own the lowest rotation ERA at 3.40, a hair ahead of the Dodgers at 3.41 and Tampa Bay at 3.44. Milwaukee also carries the cleanest walk-and-hit rate of the group at a 1.09 WHIP, the mark of a staff that rarely gives free bases.

Best bullpens

Bullpen ERA — relievers only. Lower is better.

The Yankees lead all bullpens at a 3.04 ERA, with the Braves a step behind at 3.06 and Boston third at 3.21. A relief group that reliable is why New York looks like a real threat, not just a lineup that mashes.

Green on the mound

Top arms by form — our 0–100 pitching score from ERA & WHIP. A shimmer means a historic pace (sub-2.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP).

Turning it around

Pitchers whose form — our 0–100 score from ERA & WHIP — climbed most this week.

Joe Ryan and Jesus Luzardo each gained five points of form this week, Ryan up to 75 and Luzardo to 60. Modest bumps, but both are trending the right way while a few bigger names cooled.
