Alvarez Owns September, One Homer at a Time

SEPTEMBER 23, 2026

The league's hottest offenses and hitters, by OPS and home runs.

It's a hitting day, and Yordan Alvarez is quietly running the table. He leads in batting average, sits third in homers and third in RBI, and just pushed his OPS to 1.032 on a historic pace. When one bat is near the top of every list, you start there.

Best offenses

Team OPS — on-base plus slugging. Higher is better.

The Cubs top our team-OPS board at .769, a whisker ahead of the Dodgers at .765, and it fits: Chicago spreads it around rather than leaning on one name. Washington's .745 at third is the mild surprise on this list.

Swinging a green bat

Hitters at .900+ OPS — elite (green). A shimmer means a historic pace (1.000+).

Season leaders

The season’s top five in home runs, RBI and batting average.

Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Schwarber are tied atop the homer chart at 45, with Alvarez and Junior Caminero right behind at 41. Alvarez also shares the batting-average lead at .314 with Luis Arraez, which is a rare place to find a slugger.

Climbing the home-run ladder

Most home runs added this week.

Pete Alonso had the loudest week of the climbers, four homers to reach 40, two of them against Toronto on the 21st. Crow-Armstrong and CJ Abrams each added three, keeping the top of the home-run race crowded.
